Thursday, November 16th  A CeLL Program
Photostory – Visual Literacy
P1, Bendigo Senior Secondary College
1.00pm – 4.00pm Lunch provided

Session outline:
Based on the idea that visual images are a language, visual literacy can be defined as the ability to understand and produce visual messages. As more and more information and entertainment is acquired through non-print media (such as television, movies and the internet), the ability to think critically and visually about the images presented becomes a significant skill.
The software program of PhotoStory enables teachers and students to put together movie style presentations by inserting digital photos, music and voice overs.
This hands on workshop will provide participants with:
1. Knowledge and understanding of visual literacy in the 21st century classroom
2. View sample photostory movies and consider classroom application
3. Participants should bring along images that they would like to use or time will be available to access images via the web.
4. Skill development on how to use Photostory and time to create a movie for use in the classroom – these skills can then be used to integrate photostory as a learning and teaching strategy on return to school.
5. User Guide documentation to assist participants on return to school.

What is a “wiki”?
Wikis allow open editing. Anyone can edit anyone else's writing, or undo a previous edit. This leads to a shared ownership of the collected work.
This session will provide teachers with the opportunity to consider the many ways in which http://www.wikispaces.com/site/for/teachers  can be used to support an online, collaborative learning environment.

More details on wikis can be located at http://www.bendigoschools.vic.edu.au/blogs_wikis.shtml

Assessment  - as, of and for learning
JK Hall, Bendigo Senior Secondary College
9.00am – 3.30pm

Session Outline:
Assessment Professional Learning Modules have been developed to support FS 1 on Student Learning. This program will draw on material from this DET program.
http://www.sofweb.vic.edu.au/blueprint/fs1/assessment/default.htm

Assessment practices can assist students to learn more effectively if they develop students' capacity to reflect on their learning, develop deeper understanding and cultivate higher order thinking skills. Assessment for improved student learning and deep understanding requires a range of assessment practices to be used with three overarching purposes:
Assessment for learning occurs when teachers use inferences about student progress to inform their teaching.
Assessment as learning occurs when students reflect on and monitor their progress to inform their future learning goals.
Assessment of learning occurs when teachers use evidence of student learning to make judgements on student achievement against goals and standards.

Previous professional learning opportunities can be found here. Please contact Lisa if you would like these facilitated in your school.
